Andrew Zimmern is a food writer, dining critic, radio talk-show host, TV personality, chef and teacher. He's also one of the most versatile and knowledgeable personalities in the food world.
Zimmern is an associate editor, food critic and restaurant columnist for "Mpls.St.Paul Magazine." In addition, he covers the food world with his blog, Chow and Again, on www.mspmag.com. In 2004, "Mpls.St.Paul Magazine" received the silver medal for "Best Dining Section," at the prestigious City and Regional Magazine Awards. Andrew also received the American Society of Professional Journalists Page One Award for his feature story on seafood dining in the Twin Cities, in the August 2003 issue of "Mpls.St.Paul." Andrew has also been featured in many national magazines and publications, including "Food Arts," "Restaurant Business," "NWA Traveler" and "Bon Appetit."
Zimmern's career is equally deep in front of the camera. He is the food features reporter for the Emmy-Award-winning Fox 9 News, Minneapolis-St. Paul, and is also a featured contributor on HGTV's "Rebecca's Garden" and "Tip-ical Mary Ellen." In 1997, he was the food and lifestyle features reporter for UPN's nationally televised series "Everyday Living." He has also appeared on the Food Network's "Best Of ...," CNN's "Money" and "Health" and NBC's "Today" show. In addition, Zimmern stars in the Cooking Club of America's instructional video series, which is produced by North American Media Group.
Zimmern hosts a popular culture talk show Weekdays from 1-3 p.m. As a food personality, he hosts the popular talk show "Andrew Zimmern's Food Court," from 12 noon-1pm. Both of the radio shows air on WFMP, FM 107 in Minnesota. He has been a guest chef at many national charity events, food festivals and galas, including "Food and Wine" Magazine's Aspen Festival, the Twin Cities Food and Wine Experience and the James Beard House in New York City. Zimmern regularly speaks on culinary matters to professional associations around the globe, from the American Federation of Chefs to the Chinese Chefs National Committee. In the fall of 2002, he was an honored guest of the People's Republic of China, traveling, lecturing and giving demonstrations on Chinese cookery.
Zimmern began his formal culinary training at the age of 14. Over the next 10 years, he apprenticed with some of the greatest chefs in the world. Born and raised in New York City, Zimmern attended the Dalton School and graduated from Vassar College. Contributing to many of New York's finest restaurants as either executive chef or general manager, he also lectured on restaurant management and design at The New School for Social Research, and as a consultant was responsible for creating several legendary New York restaurants. In 1992, he moved to Minnesota, where he gained wide acclaim for the next five years as the executive chef of Cafe Un Deux Trois in Minneapolis. His menus received the highest ratings from the "St. Paul Pioneer Press," "Minneapolis Star Tribune," "Minnesota Monthly," "Mpls.St.Paul Magazine" and many other national publications. Zimmern left daily restaurant operations in 1997.
